When Words are Not Enough
This post is dedicated to a very special guy who has gone out of his way to help me. I am still trying to come to terms with his generosity and wonderful support.
Can You Relate to This?
It was late Saturday afternoon and I was feeling a bit down because my Giveaway event results so far have been OK but not spectacular… and I was looking at my daily “to do” tasks and thinking I had to change them because somehow I needed a boost or a little miracle to drop by.
This month has been great but challenging and as part of Alex Jeffreys coaching program we have so many options open to us now…and that excites me. Our Marketing with Alex program is one of the best investments of my life.
BUT a real dose of reality arrived when I checked my Google and Giveaway event statistics….things were not falling into place quick enough for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I was not down, just impatient and really wanting some momentum to start for me.
The Man of the Hour
Well about mid afternoon I checked in via Skype with my “Giveaway Coach”, Allen Davis from For Internet Newbies . Allen is a Californian but lives in China…which is great for me as we have similar time zones. We talked about the stats from the recent Giveaway event and as always he shared his experiences and advice on the inner workings and scripts used by these events.
He probably sensed that I was a little disappointed with my subscriber numbers following my first Giveaway event and we started talking about Adswaps as the feeling was that with so many Giveaways, they might be “losing their shine” a little.
Adswaps and JV partnerships is something I was working so hard towards – I had even created a spreadsheet of possible things I could contribute/add value to a potential JV to make up for my currently very small list – currently about 60+
But to tell you the truth I am not sure if my spreadsheet will be attractive enough. I will find out next week as I am going to test it!
I am also working on the creation of 2 unique products and with some outsourcing help I hope to have them completed soon….but right now I was in a real pickle because of my small list size…my bargaining power was pretty limited.
The Unsolicited Offer
Now don’t get me wrong, discussions with Allen Davis are always practical, no fluff or hype and especially no feeling sorry for yourself . He doesn’t have time for or tolerate wingers – and he also runs a Skype Internet Marketers Discussion group that he introduced me to – so I have a pretty good idea of his modus operandi!
In the middle of an Adswap discussion Allen volunteered then and there to send out an email with a free list building offer for me. Truly, I had not even considered this as a possibility just yet with my small list. But there is was…what a fantastic offer of support.
Not only was he going to just match the size of my little list…he is going to send out my offer to nearly 2000 subscribers TODAY! (Sunday June 27,2010). And he does not require me to email an offer to my list!
Now I realise that I may only get 0.5% or 1% opt-in rate from this mail out…but I did create a pretty good email around my free gift for him!
What Really Matters
It really doesn’t matter to me what the end subscriber result is. The fact that Allen volunteered to help me means so much more than anything else. In order to immediately thank him I am dedicating this post to him and would love you all to check out his blog at For Internet Newbies
Is this a blatant promotion of his services….ABSOLUTELY.
I have also done a special broadcast message via Aweber to my subscribers inviting them to see this post as a true example of support and generosity.
After all I think there would be many new marketers who reach a point where they feel, despite all the support around them, that they are a bit isolated or fighting the battle alone. For them to hear a true story of genuine support like this will hopefully give them a new lease of life.
By the way you may not have noticed my subtle blog title change – it was Internet Marketing Success.” I have adjusted my future planning as I do not want to focus on this niche exclusively, if at all. It’s a great training ground for me but my real interests and potential are in less competitive but profitable niches else where. More on that soon with a post on “Niche marketing – Thai village entrepreneur style!”
Great Cheap Out-Sourcing Site
I strongly urge you to check out Fiverrs – it’s unbelievable what you can get done for ONLY $5. This site completely removes the excuse of “I can’t afford it” and I have also very quickly realized that outsourcing tasks is one of the most important things I have to do on a regular basis.
I have used them already for 4 jobs, especially because I am useless with WordPress techie stuff but I have also uncovered some amazing people who are willing to not only help but JV with you in ways that I never thought possible.
So Tell Me What You Think
As I stated in my blog title…sometimes words are not enough. I hope my little story gives you inspiration and positive thoughts for your future as an online marketer. Don’t forget to check out Allen Davis and also www.fiverr.com - they are both really worth the visit.
As always I really appreciate your feedback so please leave me your comments, especially if you can relate to some of the things I mentioned. Thanks and happy marketing

Peter, that is awesome news to hear and I know this will definitely give you the boost that you needed. You are right, sometimes all we need is a little boost to get us out of the rut that we are in and to keep going because there are plenty of times that this business will have you feeling down, maybe due to the fact that you really will not get instant results and that it does take time.
Thank you for sharing these two great resources and all the best to you in building your online success!

Thanks Anna. There are times in our lives when just little acts of kindness go such a long, long way.
what really helped me was not just the kindness offered by Allen Davis but following the offer I got energised…and this resulted in me following up some contacts I had created via Skype.
The results are some really great new relationships starting to emerge and who knows what the opportunities might be re potential JV opportunities.
My point is that having a positive mind set enabled me to see possibilities that previously I had missed!

Hello Peter,
I know how you feel about progress and despite all the work and hours of effort nothing much seems to happen; well, not the way you expect it to.
The subject of giveaways is difficult because as you say, there are so many out there and how do we come up with something that is unique and attractive?
I think that your decision to focus on your real interests is wise and I have been thinking the same recently.
Concentrate on what you know and what interests you, but occasionally refer to IM as you develop and learn more about it.
As for the techie stuff, I get bogged down trying to work stuff out and it wastes so much time. But when I do crack something, it feels great!
I have found Matt Wolfe’s WordPress Classroom excellent and he has helped me with so many aspects of the subject that I now feel good about my blog. Have a look at my blog post ‘How I Got To Grips With WordPress’ to get the link to his free stuff, if you haven’t already.
Let’s know more about your interests and Thailand too. My wife and I are looking forward to visiting one day soon. It seems that everyone else (including my children) has been, except us.
We discovered Thai food about 20 years ago at a restaurant on a trip to London and think that it’s the best there is.
Thanks for the Allen Davis link.
All the best
Peter

Hi Peter,
Thai food is fantastic…and where I live not at all expensive. In fact, last Friday night it was my mum-in-laws birthday.
4 cars with 30 people on board (yes 30!!!!) drove into the nearest town (about 20 minutes away) and we had a great dinner with a few drinks…total cost….wait for it……US$205! Unbelievable and a great night.
Thanks for the reference to Matt Wolfe..he is a really good guy and has also helped me with some techie things. I do have his WP Classroom but for sure, right now I am going over to your blog to learn how you did it.
Best wishes Peter and I hope your Thai holiday eventuates one day soon

Hey Peter,
Wonderful news in your latest post and I feel happy for you that you´ve been treated with this generosity from a fellow online marketer. Allen is going build a nice legend with his extraordinary help and no convincing needed to check him and his projects out for more. Thanks for sharing this story with us Peter.
You´ve come quite far in these few short months of Alex´training and you have been contributing a ton of valuable information in your posts. So I think you more than deserve it when you own generosity pays back. It´s just what I completely believe in: Spread the Good, attract the Good.
Keep up the good work.
Mirko
P.S. Concerning your question on my post in our members area. It is not a closed group I was talking about rather a group that gives each other constant feedback and support and we thought it´d be a wonderful thing to further join forces to propel our businesses. So, of course, you are welcome to join. We haven´t yet agreed on a first Skype group call but I´ll let you know as soon as we´ve done so.

Oh, and one more thing. I just wanted to say “hi” to Peter Tozer who has commented on this post as well. Peter Tozer has been a great help to me when I couldn´t get my technical issues fixed on my blog. And from the vivid connection to people like Anna, Jaycee, Sally, Nathan, Bailey, Darren and more I can not only relate to your post´s subject but could tell plenty of stories of online marketers with a generous helping hand whenever needed.
Good stuff!
Mirko

Good to hear stories like that. We are fortunate that there are so many generous internet marketers out there. They make up for the rip off merchants that prey on the unsuspecting.
Regarding fiverr. You have to be very selective. Some of the offers do not turn out to be as good as they sound. I have also come across several that try to upsell you too. Not that I am complaining because some of them are well worth it.
How did Allen’s promo go?
