Are You Still Interested?
Then this is how you achieve all the above and more.
Step 1 – Set up a new free Gmail account and www.google.com
Step 2 – Go to “Setting” in your new Gmail account and scroll down to “Signature”
Step 3 – Input your name and your website/blog URL
Step 4 – Scroll down to “Vacation Responder”
Step 5 – Click “vacation Responder” radio button to be ON; leave the “ends” box empty; on the subject line put something like “Please Open Immediately”; in the message box say something like “Thanks for your interesting email. Unfortunately I cannot attend to it immediately. In the interim, please check out (your website or blog) for ……………”
Step 6 – Click “save changes”
You have just created your own, free mini autoresponder and why not let Google do some FREE promotion for you – they do well enough out of Adwords and PPC!
Step 7 – Now go and sign up for any guru offers you find – the more the better BUT always use this new Gmail account as your email opt-in. Remember every single email you receive will have an automatic response sent on your behalf. Strike one for the Newbies!
Step 8 – BE A MARKETER AND NOT A BUYER! Create folders in your new Gmail account such as “great subject lines”, “clever intro”; “smart PS”, “squeeze page”; “sales letter”; “email follow campaign” etc. You decide what you want to know and learn from the best and simply save them in your folders. Very quickly you will have a series of files that contain the answers and solutions to many of your current challenges.
Step 9- Whenever you receive any email from any guru on whatever subject this is now RESEARCH. Ignore completely what they are trying to sell you and focus only on HOW they are trying to sell to you. Don’t buy just learn from the very best.
Step 10 – Now you will have a virtual “World Class Academy of
Internet Marketing”. So when you need ideas on anything just refer to your Gmail Academy – copy and paste your way to success.

Hey Nick,
More than happy to help mate. Actually it’s just what I do to try and get organised and not let the guru’s win.
It actually makes me smile when I get more emails from them, especially when I have gone to their sales page and rejected the offer (after copying and swiping the ideas first) – then there is often another downsell offer and if it’s any good I will swipe it too for my “Academy”…all’s fair in love and war eh!
My opt-in box goes to my PPP but later I want to change it to go to a newsletter (when I get time to create one). I installed it by simply using the Aweber system, setting up a new list name but copying all the other details in the autoresponder from my original PPP aweber setup. Hope this helps but if you need more details shoot me an email.

Hey Peter,
I am just about to start creating my own blog and I have found so many great ideas on your blog. Thanks for that.
But I am not sure if I really understand Internet Marketing or if it is the right market for me.
Can you give me some ideas about this niche so I can make some decisions.
I must admit that I have already sought this advice from others but I would appreciate your help.
You your blog that you are a new comer but I see you already have so many good ideas about being a success online. That’s why I am asking you for help.

Hi James,
Thanks for the nice comments and I am happy to try and help you with your questions.
Firstly, ask yourself why you want to set up your blog? Is it to share you thoughts and opinions with people on some particular topic and enjoy the social interaction that comes with readers comments?
OR Are you wanting to create a business online with your blog?
Either option is fine – you just have to be clear in your mind what the purpose of your blog is – be clear about this as it will impact on every blog post you make.
Secondly, the term “internet marketing” could relate to any marketing on the internet so it would cover everything.
But it has tended to be classed as the digital (ebook/software/audio/video) information niche. This niche is rapidly expanding as the “need to know” factor is expanding..but it’s also very competitive.
If you are considering your blog as a business then my advice to you is to think what you are really passionate about.
I say this because as a blogger you need to consistently update your blog with opinions and advice – so you better pick a topic you have at least some interest in. If you just blog for money then it will not take long for your readers to wise up and disappear! Not saying you will do this James..just making the point.
Then by using some “key words” you can research to see if there is a viable market for your passion and interest – I will email you some more details on this OK. Let me know if you need some more help – happy to oblige James. Good luck

Hey Peter,
That´s a very valuable sneaky little trick you are sharing here. It still does take discipline not to fall for the Guru´s baits, doesn´t it?
Some of their marekting stuff is just sooo good, but sure that is exactly what we want to learn and apply ourselves in the near future and it is a great way to get free education.
Many of the big launches teach some valuable stuff that anyone of us can implement right away. We just have to do it!
So, thanks for sharing this trick in your post with us and keep up the good work.

Hi Jonny,
Good to hear from you and your idea of saving under guru names (god I have that term – some of them are so arrogant) is also clever.
The best “gurus” usually have really good systems that we should copy anyway.
Best wishes and hope the weather is OK in dear ol’ blighty
[Reply]
Hi Mirko,
What ever works mate! I actually love the great marketing stuff…as I used to like watching the salesmen on their little stands in the street selling “magic can openers” etc…just the way they got the crowd around them and then got them involved….the same secrets as the best online marketers!
I canceled the interview that was a result of my PR – difficult to say here – lets just say at the moment in Thailand we have some difficulties and a current State of Emergency…will tell you all about it one day. No worries I have placed 4 more PR so we will see what happens.
Like you I am always happy to share..best wishes Mirko

Hey Glyn,
It’s always good to be able to “get one back” sometimes…only joking as I learn so much from these great marketers..I don’t care what they are selling. HOW they are doing it totally fascinates me!

Hi Sally,
It was a bit “tongue in cheek” but the message was, as Alex has told us, to find the best and copy them!
That’s why I am doing some of the great things you are doing as well. Great interview by the way

Hi Peter,
I understand the idea of studying how gurus market to you and copying what they do rather than buying the products they are selling, but what I don’t understand is what you expect to gain by sending them a canned vacation response message? Do you think they will rush to your site and buy something?
I look forward to interaction with my subscribers and am always eager to hear what they have to say. I am disappointed when I think a subscriber has sent me a reply and find it is a generic vacation response message. If I get the same generic response every time I mail them for an extended period, I might just unsubscribe them from my list.
It is also not always easy to copy what the marketers are doing on the back end unless you actually buy their product.
You may see they are selling a $7 product and think “Ok, it works for ______, it should work for me, too.” But unless you actually buy the $7 product you might not see how he really makes his money with the back end sales. Even the $27 upsell product might not be a significant portion of his income.
Some of these low end products might be there as a smoke screen specifically intended to keep others from copying their system, or it might just be to sort out the more qualified prospects, but you can be sure that many marketers treat their “buyers list” differently than their general free opt in list.
Some even go so far as to segment their lists into different price points. If they know you will buy a $7 product, they will keep offering you $7 products and the occasional $17 product thrown in to see if they should move you to a different list where you will be offered $17 products and the occasional $37 product….
Should I buy the $997 product to see if he is offering a $4997 product?
I’m not saying there aren’t valuable lessons to be learned from the free marketing you get, but it might be a mistake to assume that it will work for you without seeing the big picture.

Peter,
I’m sorry if I sounded overly critical in my last comment. I meant to start off saying it is a nice post and your blog is looking good. Your post just brought so many thoughts to mind, and I ended up focusing on the negative. I know I need to work on focusing more on positive things rather than negative. I think it is something many people struggle with at times.

Hello Allen,
They have a saying here in Thailand which roughly translated states… “don’t think to much!”
Absolutely no offense taken with your comments and in fact the points you made were quite valid.
My suggestion re the holiday vacation responder in Gmail was a bit “tongue in cheek” but I also know that 99% of the time it probably would not be read.
Actually I liked getting a negative comment because it made me stop and think and it also may cause other readers to share what they think…so thanks!
