My First Product Creation…This is My Plan!

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It’s Just How You Look at It!

Although my list of loyal subscribers is growing I want to accelerate the process.
In any niche market, an online business must develop and cherish its subscriber base.

To do this I decided to find a really good free product/gift to encourage more people to join me on my journey. By participating in Giveaways and offering free gifts as a “valuable bribe” to join my list, I used some of the latest and greatest affiliate products available…but then I realised something!

Make My Own…Why Not!

I just had to face up to it. Why not create my own, unique product that answers some of the most nagging problems or frustrations facing people in a particular niche.  Then I would have my very own unique product and not just some PLR (Private Label Rights) product that I may spend hours on trying to make it “mine”

Now there are thousands of niches online ranging from the most obscure micro niches (“lawn tractor sun shades”) to niches that are more obvious, broad and usually more competitive (“internet marketing”).

My Niche Marketing

It’s actually really easy to sum up the process as to make sure you really understand your niche market and then promote a highly relevant product to them – preferably your own!

So to me as a marketer the flow would be to discover a viable niche: get to understand the niche: create a product to promote: build a marketing campaign: earn some money!

Questions I needed Answers to

  • As a relative newcomer to the online business world could I actually do that? Why not..I can read and talk as well as most people!
  • How do I discover a profitable niche of “hungry buyers” that I can compete in effectively?
  • How do I develop the insider knowledge of a particular niche market so that I can identify their problems?
  • How can I differentiate my product from my competitors?
  • Why would anyone want to check out something that I would be offering?

The Tools I Used

All these questions buzzed around in my head for a few days but I was determined to give it a shot. After all recently I have seen some amazing sales good pages with absolute garbage products inside.

As part of my new product creation planning I used the following tools:

The concept of “Product Creation in 60 minutes” from my mentor, Alex Jeffreys…but it will take me a bit longer than 60 minutes!

A site where I found 590,000 niche markets for free – just keep digging down further and further to find some real nuggets! http://www.dmoz.org

David Walkers must read blog post on “How to Enter a Niche as an Expert”

Joe Fier’s excellent free package on “How to Make Products Quickly”

Market Samurai and Micro Niche Finder software – absolutely awesome research tools.

Google Adwords free tool at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Google trends free tool at http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends

SEM Rush site at http://www.semrush.com

Scot Standke’s valuable blog at http://nicheaday.com/nichefinder/

Justin Wheeler’s comprehensive Niche Training and support at http://www.niche365.com

My Research Results?

For sure, I did go overboard a bit with my research phase but I have other bigger plans for this process. And anyway, I loved doing it. When you discover potentially profitable, less competitive markets it gets my juices well and truly running!

So that’s how I attacked this project and without saying too much just yet, I decided on the easiest and quickest way to create a high value product – “Interview Expert(s)”

My Process Steps

Where did I find the experts? The people who had the biggest online presence in my chosen micro niche market and 2 authors of books relating to this micro niche at www.amazon.com

All I did was email them and asked them for an interview. Really that’s all it took!

In each email I also added my Skype contact details and suggested that at the end of the interview (planned to be 30 minutes…I have 4 of them to do) they can spend a couple of minutes talking about their product or book). I sent out 10 emails and got back 4 positive responses (after a bit of gentle pushing in follow up emails).

The interviews have “no strings attached” but they all wanted a copy of the interview.  For one of the interviews the web site owner is providing a special link – read that as my affiliate link – to the listeners.

The interviews are scheduled for 3rd week in July so let’s hope our Thai village power and internet connections are working OK as my plan is to use Skype and Pamela (for recording the call)

Questions I Will Ask the Experts

These are the generic questions I plan to use so you can use to do the same:

  1. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out with ….
  2. If someone is on a tight budget what would you recommend for…..
  3. What are the future trends you see happening in…..
  4. What are some of the biggest mistakes people make when doing……
  5. What are some critical factors people often overlook when it comes to….
  6. How did you get started?
  7. If you had to start over again…what would you do differently?
  8. If there is one thing our listeners should do immediately after this call, what would it be?

These questions will the blanks filled in have been sent to my 4 interviewees.

So that’s my plan.

Your Comments Please

What do you think? What have I missed? It’s not too late so please let me know OK?

What are Your Product Creation Experiences?

How did you create your first product? If it was with an interview then what questions did you use? Is surveying your list an effective way to create a product?
Please leave your answers and comments as I would really like to hear your feedback.

Hey Peter – Great post man!

I don’t only want to thank you for the cool shout out, but for the other awesome links in there. You really have done your homework.

A lot of people think it’s a waste of time really dig in deep into a potential niche, but really it’s gong to save soooo many hours during the product creation and marketing side of things.

Great idea with the expert interview. I’ve seen a lot of people do this really well. Plus it allows you to position yourself with a big name in the industry.

Best of luck buddy & speak soon! :)

Actually my initial email only promoted the opportunity of a quick Skype message something along the lines of “knowing you would be such a busy guy and I don’t want to take up any of your valuable time”….etc.

Once you discover the long tail keywords you want to target, you then need to understand who your competition is for that keyword phrase. Market Samurai provides a module called SEO competition that allows you to explore each one of the top ranked, page one listings to see why they have secured the top position, and helps you identify what you can do to maybe secure a page one listing. You can check out why it is the top of Search Engine Marketing tools and also it’s my favorite

    Hi Burt,
I agree with you. Market Samurai is an excellent tool.
The one thing I have found using this tool is that many websites page ranking is not because their site is optimized but because of their longevity.

Many sites are almost stagnant re new content and it’s hard to believe they can still rank in Google but rely they heavily on the fact that their domain is 5+ years old and during that time they have amassed quite a few back links.
Thanks for the comment Burt and good luck with your marketing.
